1959

The company founders, Isolde and Eugen Stalder, take over a small chrome plating shop in Engelburg SG.

1960

Start of galvanising in a 200-litre barrel

1962

First company outing

1963

Chrome plating and galvanizing are offered in a new building on Breitschachenstrasse.


In the same year, the first waste water system is put into operation.

1968

Extension to the chrome plating company is completed.

1969

Anodising of aluminium is introduced as a new process in a separate new building.

1973

The sole proprietorship Stalder is converted into a public limited company, Stalder AG.

1974

15th anniversary of the company

1976

Construction of the main building, Plant 1, with the first fully automatic galvanising plant, a new waste water system and new offices

1977

Construction of the barrel galvanising plant

1978

Construction of own transformer station and garages

1979

20th anniversary of the company


Expansion of the automatic galvanising machine with a 3rd zinc bath and installation of a 2nd converter

1981

Purchase of the neighbouring property «Wider» and construction of Plant 2 with a new barrel galvanising unit

1982

Introduction of IT in the company

1983

A New multi-purpose building with the first anodising plant (Colinal), a workshop, a training room with canteen and the laboratory

1984

The new burnishing department is opened with the construction of a Brünox plant.

1986

The chrome plating company is converted to a fully automatic computer-controlled system for nickel, copper, chrome and gold.

1987

Installation of a pilot plant and start of pickling and electropolishing of stainless steel

1988

Expansion of the road, construction of a subway, new car parks, new connections to the sewage treatment plant 


The purchase of land between Plant 1 and Plant 2 and below Breitschachenstrasse ensures further expansion. 

1989

Installation of a new wastewater system-Aquaren and complete overhaul of the existing first wastewater system

1990

Construction of Plant 3 and inauguration of stainless steel surface technology

1991

Extension of the electropolishing plant with 2nd converter and automatic machines. New installation of Brünox and automatic zinc coating machine in Plant 3.

1994

Extension of Plant 1: New offices and additional production space created. 


The first quality management system certification according to ISO 9002 is successfully confirmed.

1999

Takeover of Metallwaren AG, Plant 4: Another fully automatic galvanising line is installed.

2000

Start of production in Plant 4 and introduction of an innovative process: barrel electropolishing

2004

45th company anniversary 


The first company in Eastern Switzerland to put cyanide decontamination into operation.


Company founder Eugen Stalder hands over operational management to Christoph Stalder, the second generation.

2005

Hard anodising of aluminium is offered as a new process.

2007

Extension of Eloxal and canopy of Plant 1, new installation of a central exhaust air system and expansion of the barrel electropolishing plant

2008

The company founder Isolde Stalder dies on 27 September.


The waste water system is equipped with the latest computerised control system.

2009

50th company anniversary


Stalder AG receives the 2009 Environmental Cup and is successfully certified according to the ISO 14001 environmental management system.

2011

Complete overhaul of the electropolishing plant with rack. The system control is replaced by a fully automatic process control.

2012

New installation of recirculating water system for water treatment

2013

New Plant 4, extension to Plant 2 and new parking spaces

2014

55th anniversary of the company


New installation of a fully automatic barrel galvanising system and an exhaust air system


Take over and integration of the surface technology division with barrel anodising of small parts in bulk from market leader Color Metal GmbH from Heitersheim, DE

2015

New construction of Plant 2 with the start of production of a new barrel anodising system 

2017

The new service centre (DLZ) handles testing and assembly work, final packaging, labelling, packing, direct shipping and interim storage.

2018

New installation of a fully automatic anodising system with cooling system and energy recovery.


Two photovoltaic systems are put into operation on the roofs of Plant 1 and  Plant 4 for the company’s own use.

2019

60th anniversary of the company


Inauguration of a modern anodising plant in Plant 3. The barrel galvanising plant is converted to a cyanide-free process. 


TopCoat sealants are now offered in a hybrid process for the corrosion protection of zinc.

2020

Stalder Swiss Finish for smallest parts gets its own website: smallestparts.ch

2021

Thick-film passivation (chrome-6-free) replaces yellow passivation.


The process of the large galvanising plant is converted to cyanide-free galvanising 


New installation of a circulating water system, introduction of own ERP solution for electroplating

2022

Company founder Eugen Stalder dies on 17 October.

2023

Cedric and Robin Stalder, Christoph Stalder’s two sons, join the company.


Two new photovoltaic systems are put into operation on the roofs of Plant 1 and Plant 2.


The ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of the extension to the main building.

2024

    65th anniversary of the company


    A new photovoltaic system with 176 kWp is put into operation on the main building.
